I had
the pleasure of meeting with Doug Heinlein Director: School of Design:
The Art Institute of Seattle, to talk about my website. We went over how the
site could be improved and he offered samples of good design to aid in his
explanation of what he feels works nicely a for portfolio site. The main items
we covered were exploring scale, layout, and content. A site with large
photographs, clean, flat design with simple navigation seems to be popular.
Unification of font choices is important as well. Adorning thumbnail buttons
with intriguing alternate rollover states enhances the experience. Including
about four pictures of each project can help the user feel closer to the design.
The inclusion of a linked pdf of a full case study that is able to load quickly
is important to allow the viewer an understanding of the process and appli-
cation of the design.
